Alicia Keys Will Host the 2019 Grammy Awards

Alicia Keys joined the esteemed ranks of Andy Williams, Queen Latifah, Paul Simon and Jon Stewart on Tuesday when she announced that she’ll be hosting the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.

The “No One” singer shared her news with a nearly 10-minute-long video in which she coincidentally is filmed while finding out about the hosting gig, tells her nonplussed kids (One asks, “What’s the Grammys?”) and preps for the big day with plenty of promos. Her charm will be a welcome change from James “The English Jimmy Fallon” Corden, who’s emceed the last two years. Who knows—maybe Keys will go on to a five-year hosting stint, just like LL Cool J.

Keys described in the video just how excited she is about hosting, especially considering the number of female artists who are nominated:

I know what it feels like to be on that stage and I know what it feels like to be proud of the work that you’ve put in and to be recognized for it … Honestly I’m really excited. I feel really good about it because I feel like it’s the perfect opportunity for me to give the light back and lift people up, especially all the young women that are nominated. To me, it feels like sister vibes.

The 61st Annual Grammy Awards will air on Feb. 10. Watch Keys’ announcement video below, revisit the nominees here and explore all of Paste’s musings about the 2019 Grammy nominations in our ReSlacktions post.
