Brandi Carlile’s Girls Just Wanna Weekend Festival Is for Everyone, Supporting Women in Music

Brandi Carlile has stepped up to support her fellow female musicians and highlight the gender disparity in festival lineups with her own festival, which features an all female-fronted lineup. Brandi Carlile’s Girls Just Wanna Weekend will include three shows by Carlile and performances by Maren Morris, Indigo Girls, Margo Price and Lucius, among others.

Running from Jan. 30 through Feb. 3, 2019, the festival will take place at the all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico. It is produced by Cloud 9 Adventures in partnership with The Bowery Presents.

Carlile said she would love to have a large attendance of men supporting women in rock, as well as to see everyone “letting it all go for a weekend together in harmony.”

“Mainstream festivals in the U.S. habitually exclude women as headline artists equal to men,” Carlile said. “I was brought up by Lilith Fair to believe that men and women enjoy live music equally and that women can not only headline a festival—they can BE a festival.”

Attendees can choose from a variety of rooms available at the Hard Rock Hotel when booking. Members of Carlile’s official fan club, the Bramily Fan Alliance, will get access to opt-in to an exclusive pre-sale through the Bramily website until July 25. This pre-sale will begin July 31. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Aug. 1 at 12 p.m. ET. Find full details on the festival and its accommodations here.

Currently, Carlile is continuing her tour across the U.S. through September in support of her latest album By The Way, I Forgive You, which came out earlier this year. Carlile and her bandmates the Hanseroth twins founded the Looking Out Foundation together in an aim to amplify the impact of music by empowering those without a voice, and $1 from every concert ticket sold goes to support the diverse demographic they aim to serve.
