Brittany Howard Announces 2020 U.S. Tour Dates
Photo by Maria TorresPowerhouse Alabama Shakes vocalist and ascendant solo artist Brittany Howard has announced a spring 2020 tour. The four-time Grammy winner’s U.S. headlining run is in support of her acclaimed solo debut Jaime, which was released in September, earning two Grammy noms and a spot on Paste’s list of this year’s best albums.
Howard’s 2020 itinerary begins in early March with three previously announced U.K. shows before she heads back Stateside for her new tour, beginning March 17 in Santa Rosa, Calif. The 15-show run features stops in Anaheim, Phoenix, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Charlotte and Orlando, among other cities, before wrapping in Howard’s home state with an April 28 show in Birmingham, Ala. Howard’s slate also includes sets at Charleston’s Highwater Festival and Atlanta’s Shaky Knees in April and May, respectively.
Recalling how she (and herself) came to record her solo album, Howard told Paste’s Ellen Johnson in September:
There’s times where you’re just driving across Texas, Oklahoma, somewhere flat, and ain’t nobody really talking, it’s just silent in the car. And I was just thinking, “I’m turning 30. I want to do something that I’ve always wanted to do, and I’ve always wanted to make my own record.” I was like, “Well, what do I want to do? [Do I] want to be touring, playing these songs till I’m 50, or do I really wanna switch up the game and do something risky and challenging?” And that’s really all there was to it—just a little conversation between me and myself.
Tickets to Howard’s U.S. tour go on sale tomorrow, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. local time via her website.
