Carly Rae Jepsen’s Addictive “Cut to the Feeling” Kicks Off Summer

Carly Rae Jepsen is kick-starting the summer with her dazzling new power-pop anthem, “Cut to the Feeling.” The new tune will be featured on the soundtrack for Leap!, an animated film coming out in August.

“Cut to the Feeling” is infused with Jepsen’s signature ‘80s-pop-inspired sound, now combined with a melody so sunny and a chorus so addictive that it is bound to achieve “song of the summer” status. “I wanna cut through the clouds, break the ceiling,” Jepsen gleefully sings, “I wanna dance on the roof, you and me alone/ I wanna cut to the feeling, oh yeah.”

The track was originally written during the sessions for Emotion, Jepsen’s 2015 release, but didn’t make the cut for the album, nor did it land on last year’s Emotion Side B EP (which was one of the 10 Best EPs of 2016).

Jepsen also voices a character in Leap!, a French Canadian film released earlier this year that was originally titled Ballerina.
