Glasgow quartet Catholic Action have shared the latest single from their sophomore album, Celebrated By Strangers, out on March 27 via Palo Santo Records. You can hear their brand new single “Another Name for Loneliness,” exclusively via Paste below. It follows their previously released singles “One Of Us” and “People Don’t Protest Enough.” After last year’s North American run supporting We Were Promised Jetpacks, Catholic Action will return this March to play New Colossus Festival in New York City and SXSW in Austin.
Amidst twinkling synths and guitar warbles, “Another Name for Loneliness” questions whether cynicism or suspicion should be mixed in with romance. Lead vocalist Chris McCrory ultimately decides that love is still a benevolent force—and a potentially potent one in the pursuit of happiness. As with the other selections we’ve heard from Celebrated By Strangers, Catholic Action’s distorted guitar pop isn’t just tuneful—it’s the kind of sassy, good-natured and inspired art that gets people out of bed every morning.
“This song is about rediscovering pure, joyful and meaningful love as an adult,” says McCrory. “And learning not to question it.”
