Watch Clipping’s Spacey, Single-Shot “True Believer” Video

Today, the experimental hip-hop trio Clipping released the music video for “True Believer” from their 2016 dystopian, afro-futurist concept album Splendor and Misery. The album, shortlisted for Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form) at this year’s Hugo Awards, traces the narrative of a slave uprising on an interstellar cargo ship.

The music video for “True Believer,” directed by Carlos Lopez-Estrada, follows an astronaut (vocalist Paul Outlaw) as he floats into outer space, while Daveed Diggs (of Hamilton fame) narrates the history of the universe. The track is rather spare, with a slowly intensifying background hum and measured couplets—parallels to Deltron 3030 are inescapable.
