Bluesy singer/songwriter keeps nourishing the American soul
Two journeys to Cameroon led Denver native Corey Harris to deep explorations of African and American blues. He soldered that connection on 2003’s gorgeous Mississippi to Mali. On Daily Bread he returns to homegrown fare in the key of rock- and reggae-tinged downhome jams. His sonic acumen stretches across 13 tracks emblazoned with skilled guitar work and personal, passionate songwriting. Famed trumpeter Olu Dara joins for two songs, and by the time the 10-minute “The Peach” ends, you know you’ve traveled a road you’ll journey down again and again.
