Philly duo Crooks and Nannies have released the newest single off their upcoming LP Real Life, out August 25 via Grand Jury. “Weather” is a melodic cacophony of confusion and upset, a slow burn of a track that blooms into a screeching catharsis. Whispery, sweet vocals become infused with flares of guitar feedback and crashing percussion, a sonic dissonance handcrafted to exemplify the song’s thematic tension.
“The song is about feeling hollow,” singer Sam Huntington explains. It was written during a long solo bike ride through pandemic-ridden Philadelphia and quickly morphed into a track about a fundamental, inside-out loneliness.
