Cyndi Lauper brought her “Home for the Holidays” show to the Beacon Theatre in New York this weekend, with proceeds, as always, going to the True Colors Fund , her charity for homeless LGBT people. The show, in its seventh annual edition, brought a formidable lineup, including Jackson Browne, Ani DiFranco and Dr. John. But the highlight of the evening as Stereogum points out, was probably Lauper’s performance, together with Laura Jane Grace of Against Me!, of her 1985 song “Goonies ‘R Good Enough,” from the movie “The Goonies.” If you were a kid in 1985, this fantastic song (not to mention the movie) was absolutely inescapable, though Lauper herself reportedly hated it for years. Thankfully, she seems to have come around.
