Listen to an Exclusive D’Angelo Performance from 1995

The world lost a legend last week when Michael Eugene Archer died from pancreatic cancer. Better known as the R&B singer D’Angelo, he released his debut album, Brown Sugar 30 years ago. He followed that up with 2000’s Voodoo, which we recently named the third best album of the 21st century so far. Influenced as much by the gospel music of his childhood as by the hip-hop of Native Tongues artists like A Tribe Called Quest, that debut album remains one of the best neo soul records of all time.

D’Angelo only played a handful of shows to support that first record, including a set at Tramps in New York City on Aug. 30, and we have the exclusive recording of that concert for you to enjoy below. Divided into two similar sets, each performance includes hits like “Lady,” “Brown Sugar” and “Sweet Sticky Thing.”
