Irish singer-songwriter David Hopkins has been a busy man since his days in the band LiR. Over the past two decades, he has been on the road as the touring keyboardist for The Who and Damien Rice as well as leading his own project Bombay Heavy. As exciting as all those experiences were, he says that they were also marked with a lot of compromise. That was something he was cognizant of when going in to record his latest solo album Overlook. This time around, he was going to do what he wanted.
The record that he walked out of the studio with is a multi-layered, multi-colored affair with Hopkins trying his hand at funky Serge Gainsbourg-style pop and string-soaked bossa nova. For his latest single, “Let Somebody Inside,” he lets his balladeer come out with a beautiful lyric of breaking down one’s guard and, as the title says, opening up to the attention and love of someone in his life. Prepare to have your heart broken and quietly repaired with this one as you watch the premiere of Hopkins’ new video.
