Death Valley Girls have shared the video for ”(One Less Thing) Before I Die” off their album Darkness Rains, out now on Suicide Squeeze Records.
Like most Death Valley Girls songs, ”(One Less Thing) Before I Die” is a quick burst of desert-scuzz pop. The blink-and-you’ll-miss-it nature of their song-work makes them the perfect vehicles for music video experiments. Where previous videos featured psychedelic filmography and Iggy Pop eating a hamburger, the video for ”(One Less Thing) Before I Die” digs deep into the band’s twin bedrocks of sun-bleached desert aesthetics and gnarly excavations of the counter-culture. It features footage the band shot of stuntman Mad Mike Hughes attempting to launch his homemade steam-powered rocket out of the Nevada desert. Also included: widowers, funerals and desecration of holy fish. Gnarly stuff.
