Listen to Diet Cig’s First New Song Since 2017, “Night Terrors”

Alex Luciano and Noah Bowman are back with their first new Diet Cig song since their 2017 full-length debut, Swear I’m Good At This. “Night Terrors” is out now on Frenchkiss Records, and the duo have also announced a spring tour.

Luciano says of Diet Cig’s new single:

This song centers around my very real and frequent experiences with night terrors and other bizarre sleep activity. If we’re close enough to have ever shared a room, you know what I’m talking about. This song goes out to you.

The idea of night terrors also represents the fact that no matter how hard I try to curate a specific and perfect version of myself, the embarrassing, weird, unlikable parts are always going to be there too. The people I’m closest with will always end up seeing them, when they inevitably come hurling out of me like my night terrors in the middle of the night. This song’s about holding onto that hope that the real ones will like me even with all my weird freaky stuff underneath. Even when I’m screaming at them in my sleep from across the hotel room.

It’s safe to say Paste is glad to see Diet Cig back in action: We hailed the duo as one of 2016’s best new bands on the strength of their 2015 debut EP Over Easy and subsequent singles, and ranked Swear I’m Good At This among the best albums of 2017. There’s no word yet on whether “Night Terrors” is our first preview of a new album from the duo.

Diet Cig’s newly announced spring tour of North America and the U.K. gets started in Bristol, U.K., on May 2, bringing the band to Brooklyn’s Music Hall Of Williamsburg (May 16) and Chicago’s Lincoln Hall (May 27) before concluding with a June 6 stop in Charlottesville, Va. Tickets go on sale this Friday, Jan. 31, at 10 a.m. local time.
