Watch Eleanor Friedberger’s Beautiful New Video For “Never Is a Long Time,” Featuring Old SXSW Footage

Eleanor Friedberger, one-time member of The Fiery Furnaces and current solo artist with three albums under her belt, has released the music video for “Never is a Long Time.” The song comes from her third album, New View, which was released in January. The video, which you can watch above, contains archival footage from the early days of the South by Southwest festival in Austin, TX. The old footage features, among others, Jeff Tweedy, the Jayhawks, Beatle Bob, Wesley Willis (remember him??), Jon Langford, and the Old 97s. Per Pitchfork, Friedberger had the following to say about the video:

When I was a student at the University of Texas, South by Southwest meant seeing five shows a day instead of five shows a week. There was no line to see Iggy Pop perform on a small outdoor stage off 6th Street or watch Wayne Coyne conduct his parking lot experiment. These were very formative years for me and watching these scenes, shot in 1996, is a good reminder that I still aspire to make music for my 19-year-old self, not music entirely dictated by computers and commercial interests.

The video and song are gorgeous together—it’s amazing how watching some from the ‘90s already feels like the distant past—so check it out above, and catch Friedberger on her national tour starting today.
