England’s Goat Girl hail from the same South London scene as Shame, and while the latter have revived classic punk via sheer aggression, Goat Girl’s approach is far more subtle, but no less effective. The band’s self-titled debut, out April 6 on Rough Trade, is a refined blend of dark punk ethos and country-inspired twang.
Today the band are sharing a new single, “Throw Me a Bone,” which opens with a dense, dripping bass line. The menacing intro gives way to lead singer Clottie Cream warning, “Throw me a bone, and I’ll throw back a stone/ Take me home, and you’ll end up alone.” At just over 2 minutes, the gloomy track makes its mark, but doesn’t overstay its welcome.
