Jack White to Release Career-Spanning Acoustic LP, Shares First New White Stripes Song Since 2008
Images via Third Man RecordsIn September, Third Man Records, in partnership with Columbia Records, will release JACK WHITE ACOUSTIC RECORDINGS: 1998-2016, a career-spanning double LP of White’s remastered acoustic album cuts, b-sides and remixes.
The first track from the collection is “City Lights,” a song originally written for the White Stripes’ Get Behind Me Satan. White found the lost track while preparing that album’s 2015 Record Store Day re-release.
White finished the song this year and is crediting it under his old band’s name, making it the first new White Stripes’ song released since the 2008 release of “Conquista,” the Spanish-sung version of Icky Thump’s “Conquest.” You can get a first taste of the track in the JACK WHITE ACOUSTIC RECORDINGS: 1998-2016 preview below.
The album is 26 tracks long, with songs representing White’s tenures in The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and his recent solo outings. Revered music critic Greil Marcus penned the album’s liner notes. The collection will be made available both physically and digitally on Sept. 9, and is available for pre-order here. Digital pre-orderers will receive an instant “City Lights” download starting Friday, Aug. 12.
