Jake Bugg released the video for “Hope, Love and Mercy,” this morning, a single from his forthcoming On My One. The song is a bluesy breakup ballad, highlighted by a poppy orchestral chorus.

The video was directed by Michael Holyk, who previously worked with Bugg on videos for “Trouble Town” and “Gimme The Love,” the latter of which is also a part of the On My One tracklist.

In writing the song itself, Bugg was inspired by sensitive ‘70s singer-songwriters like Bill Withers and Harry Nilsson—he even got Withers’ drummer to play on the track. With that foundation, the video took inspiration from Withers’ 1972 performance of “Ain’t No Sunshine” on BBC’s The Old Grey Whistle Test. That is to say the video features Bugg in a sweater, playing in an open space with his band in the background.

On My One, Bugg’s third full-length studio album, is set for a June 17 release. Check out the “Hope, Love and Mercy” video above.
