Kero Kero Bonito Release New B-Side “The Open Road”

British indie darlings Kero Kero Bonito have shared their latest song, “The Open Road,” the b-side from their forthcoming 7-inch featuring the previously released “Swimming.” This new song also kicks off KKB’s tour, which will take the band to Europe and North America (including a performance at Coachella).

Late last year, the trio unveiled their sophomore album Time ‘n’ Place via Polyvinyl Records, a noisy, unexpected follow-up to their delightfully bubble-gummy debut Bonito Generation. While “The Open Road” definitely sounds like it belongs on their most recent record, it’s still full of the electro-pop elements that make it seem better-suited for a dreamy journey through the sky than any old road trip.

Frontwoman Sarah Bonito, bassist Jamie Bulled and drummer Gus Lobban said in a statement that this b-side “is a song about our North America tour last year, including anecdotes about the time a lorry nearly jackknifed into us in a blizzard.” They capture the feeling of a near-miss with wondrous bliss, as Bonito sings about their post-incident fast food pit-stop:

So we peeled off for a break
Though we knew it meant we’d be late
But we were alive and
It felt pretty good to taste
The strawberry milkshake
