Artists and fans including Green Day, Garbage and Pearl Jam have donated money to support L7 bassist Jennifer Finch’s ongoing battle against brain cancer.
Finch’s L7 bandmates shared news of her diagnosis on Monday, launching a GoFundMe campaign to support her medical expenses. The news came ahead of their Last Hurrah Tour, which was due to begin in October. They shared that they were “all devastated by the news,” but that Finch had asked her bandmates to continue with the tour as previously planned. “We will honor her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority,” L7 said.
The initial goal of the GoFundMe was to raise $150,000. That amount has already been doubled, with Garbage donating $8,000 and sharing an Instagram post encouraging fans to pitch in. Donations have also come from Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament, Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill, and Adrienne Armstrong, wife of Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong.
Finch’s friend Aubree Miller, who organized the campaign, posted an update to the GoFundMe saying they were “absolutely blown away” by the support. “We are all so grateful for the community showing up far and wide to support Jennifer…Keep this energy going—Jen deserves it.” Miller went on to thank L7 as well as Courtney Love for “their support and love. Without them this wouldn’t have been possible.”
