Laura Marling Releases New Song “Wild Fire,” Announces U.S. Tour

Laura Marling continues to display a wisdom far beyond her years. The 26-year-old singer-songwriter has followed up “Soothing,” the first single off her forthcoming album Semper Femina, with the new song “Wild Fire.” Where “Soothing” was led by an intriguing, almost unsettling mix of bass and strings, “Wild Fire” sees Marling comfortably behind her acoustic guitar for a simpler, but nonetheless beautiful, folk song that falls squarely in her wheelhouse. Her songwriting continues to be at the top of its game with striking lines like, “You always say you love me most when I don’t know I’m being seen / Well maybe someday when God takes me away I’ll understand what the fuck that means,” set to winding rhythms and stirring melodies.

Along with the new song, Marling has also announced her plans for a North American tour, set to begin April 30 in San Francisco and carry through most of May, including a previously announced show at New York’s Brooklyn Steel. Head to Marling’s site and preorder the new album to receive first access to tickets, which will go on sale to the public on Friday, Jan. 20. Tickets for the Brooklyn show are already on sale.

Marling is also scheduled to perform on a broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion this Saturday, Jan. 14, which will also feature Andrew Bird and Beth Stelling.

Semper Femina, Marling’s sixth album and the followup to 2015’s Short Movie, is out March 10 through her own More Alarming Records via Kobalt Music Recordings. Listen to “Wild Fire” below, and see the full tour schedule, along with Paste Cloud audio from her 2012 Daytrotter session, beneath that.
