Local Natives Unveil New Single, Album and Tour

Music News Local Natives

Local Natives have announced that the title of their third album is Sunlit Youth, and that it will be released Sept. 9. They also posted the video to a new song, “Villainy,” the second song to be released from Sunlit Youth, and announced a world tour. (They’re not the only band to hit for the cycle today, so to speak.)

The release of “Villainy” follows “Past Lives,” which was released on April 29, and was the first song the indie-rock band put out since 2013. They’re calling Sunlit Youth the final piece in a trilogy, with their 2010 debut album Gorilla Manor and 2013’s Hummingbird as the first two parts.

“Villainy” premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show yesterday. The song is beat-heavy, a bit more aggressive than what we’ve heard previously from them, but frontman Taylor Rice’s vocals remain as smooth and atmospheric as ever. The video, directed by Andrew Droz Palermo (of Rich Hill documentary fame), is a lyric video of sorts, featuring a sometimes-skewed projection of the lyrics and the band members dancing in slow motion.

Following sets at festivals like Forecastle and Lollapalooza, Local Natives will embark on a world tour in September, with dates across the U.S. Watch the video for “Villainy” below and beneath that, find the full list of newly announced tour dates.
