At this point, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has achieved yuletide classic status. The single from her holiday album Merry Christmas was released in 1994. For years, the song has been getting plenty of airtime on radio stations during the holidays, and now, it’s getting even more recognition.
The single made the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 list for the first time since its release 23 years ago. The song climbed the ladder from its previous peak at number 11, and is Carey’s 28th top-10 single, tying her with Stevie Wonder for the fifth-most Hot 100 top 10s in the chart’s history.
“As a songwriter, I feel so honored to have this song reach Billboard’s [Hot 100] top 10 for the first time. I honestly never thought we’d be talking about this happening, but I’m so thankful to everyone who embraces this song as part of their holiday tradition,” Carey told Billboard. “It truly warms my heart, and I am proud of this song that I wrote basically as a kid on my little Casio keyboard.”
