MGMT have been teasing their new album for over a year now. Back in June, Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser announced that the follow-up to their self-titled 2013 album was finished, and it even had a title: Little Dark Age. On Tuesday, they unveiled the first single and title track, along with a video directed by David MacNutt and Nathaniel Axel.

VanWyngarden and Goldwasser also talked to Zane Lowe on his Beats1 radio show, where they discussed the recording of the song and the album as a whole, and how they constructed much of it from their respective home bases on opposite coasts. The album was produced by Patrick Wimberly, formerly of Chairlift, and Dave Fridmann, who produced MGMT’s last album and their 2007 debut, Oracular Spectacular.

“Little Dark Age” is a stark blast of percussive synths that opens up into a melodic chorus. “When we finished the track, the two of us were dancing around in the recording studio,” Goldwasser tells Lowe. Listen to that interview here, and check out the video for “Little Dark Age” below.
