PREMIERE: Listen to Neil Hamburger’s New Single “Security Guard”

America’s Funnyman is back. Neil Hamburger—the stand-up comedian and singer moniker of multi-hyphenate Gregg Turkington—has a new album on the way. Seasonal Depression Suite is set to release via Drag City on November 17. For the record, Turkington composed all of the lyrics and curated the guest appearances, while Erik Paparozzi’s instrumentation shines and pierces deeply. New single “Security Guard”—the latest installment after “Sleeping for Free” and “Maids Can’t Mop Up Memories”—is a dashing, sub-two-minute display of campy theatrics and acid showtunes. Imagine Frank Sinatra doing his best Rocky Horror Picture Show impression at a Steely Dan function and you’ll get Neil Hamburger’s “Security Guard.” It’s a brilliant, dense and features monumental singing from Sun City Girls’ Alan Bishop and a slick sax solo from Bar McKinnon. Merging heavy classic rock riffs with high school theater piano and drug-induced paranoia, “Security Guard” is smooth on the ears and unforgettable.
