Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds Release New Single, “Holy Mountain”

“She fell, she fell, right under my spell,” Noel Gallagher of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds sings on new single “Holy Mountain.” The song is a love affair with the mysterious idea of “woman” and with psych-fuzz rock, and if that’s the temple where you worship, you will love “Holy Mountain.”

“Holy Mountain” is the band’s first single off of Who Built the Moon?, which comes out Nov. 27 on Noel Gallagher’s own Sour Mash. “There’s so much joy in [“Holy Mountain”],” said Gallagher in a statement. “Until the day I die, it will be one of my favourite pieces of music that I’ve ever written. It sounds great live. My kids love it, my friends’ kids all love it and I am sure ‘the kids’ will love it.”

Lyrics like “come get to know me like the back of your hand” sound kind of gross out of context, but are more fun in the throes of a song that tries to summon 1969. Of course, any of Noel Gallagher’s attempts at successful songwriting will be contested by his brother, Liam. But with a highly hyped album and a 12” vinyl release for Holy Mountain accompanied by an exclusive, instrumental version of the track on his own label, there is no higher power available.
