Daily Dose: Pretty Vicious, “Move”

Daily Dose is your daily source for the song you absolutely, positively need to hear every day. Curated by the Paste Music Team.

Welsh rockers Pretty Vicious are back with the just-released ripper “Move.” All under the age of 21 still, the four bandmates have already hauled through a tangle of music industry struggles—they seemed to be right on track for making it big time just a couple years ago, and in 2016 we highlighted them as the Best of What’s Next, but after a few singles and the Cave Song EP, they got knocked off their path.

It is a sign of the band’s willpower that they were able to pull themselves back from the brink of destruction and find a new route that works for them. Pretty Vicious signed to Big Machine/John Varvatos Records in April of this year and played their first show in the U.S. ever in Nashville at the end of July. It’s a move in the right direction, as is their singeing new track. “Move” is a cyclone of pent-up energy—the churning guitars are made for an equally unruly audience to dance to. “If you want it come and get it,” lead vocalist Brad Griffiths snarls; he commands their listeners to “jump around” and “let it out,” which is exactly what this song makes you want to do—punk is its own brand of catharsis, and Pretty Vicious certainly draw from that. “Music is my one release,” Griffiths sings, so it’s good news all around that the quartet are ready once again to share their raw potential.

Pretty Vicious are currently working on their debut album with producer Dan Austin (You Me At Six, Twin Atlantic, Pulled Apart By Horses). The record is expected out in early 2019.
