Dais Records To Release Rare Recordings From Swedish Composer Ragnar Grippe

Ragnar Grippe might not be a familiar name to a lot of Paste readers but if you fancy yourself a fan of adventurous music, he’s someone you should get to know. And that will be easier than ever next month when Dais Records brings to the world a collection of unreleased material by the Swedish composer.

Symphonic Songs was originally recorded in the early ‘80s as a commission from choreographer Susan Buirge for use in a theater piece titled Ci-Déla. For it, Grippe made use of the Buchla synthesizer, building layers of creeping sound and unbound melody that feel like small rivulets of cold water running down the spine quickly soothed with a blast of warmth.

The double LP release of Symphonic Songs, out on January 18th, features lovely artwork from J.S. Aurelius and some liner notes about the experience of creating this work from Grippe. Check out a track from the album below.
