What has always been striking about Regina Spektor is her versatility and her ability to do pretty much anything. Case in point: the Russian-born singer debuted her lead single, “Bleeding Heart,” a tech-heavy track balanced with her signature piano playing, from her forthcoming album Remember Us to Life, at the end of July.
The next track Spektor released off the record on Thursday, “Small Bill$,” almost sounds like it’s lifted from a completely different artist altogether. Spektor gives off a vibe similar to M.I.A. by rapping portions of the hustling, groovy tune, yet it is still all her own.
Remember Us to Life, Spektor’s first album in four years, is due out Sept. 30.
