Watch SASAMI’s “Not the Time” Video

Los-Angeles-based singer SASAMI, aka Sasami Ashworth, has released the video for “Not the Time,” off her debut seven-inch, out now through Domino.

“Not the Time” places SASAMI’s deeply rooted indie rock in a distinctly separate lineage than the one that spawned her work with Cherry Glazerr, for whom she played keyboards. “Not the Time” is more subdued and compact, and its lo-fi buzz shows that SASAMI’s inspiration is more Sonic Youth than ‘70s garage. The video, co-directed by Kate Hollowell and SASAMI herself, is similarly lo-fi, and combines images of mariachi performers, ‘80s workout girl videos and ‘60s school dance bonanzas.

In addition to the video, SASAMI has announced the dates for her 2019 European tour, as well as a January hometown show at The Echo in Los Angeles.
