Exclusive: Sego Share Seniors-Only Dance Class-Themed Video, “Give Me”

Los Angeles rockers Sego have shared the video for their single “Give Me,” taken from their second album Sego Sucks, out now on Roll Call Records. Their new video features a seniors-only dance class interspersed with brief flashes of the band and karaoke-style onscreen lyrics.

The idea of a rock band chanting “USA, USA, USA!” on a song in 2019 seems unthinkable, but Sego master ironic absurdity on “Give Me.” They chuckle with dry amusement at the ludicrous notion that millennials fail to reach traditional adult milestones simply because they’re childish brats (“Well, I think it’s time we all start acting our age / Well, I think it’s time I actually start getting paid”). Later, they break into a slightly altered American Pledge of Allegiance (“I pledge allegiance / To the new nation / The black white and grey / Uh … Truth and cliche”), and children lend “Make that money” backing vocals, followed by a splitting guitar solo that hopefully brings home some bacon.

In our full album review, Paste wrote, “Sego Sucks tackles self-loathing, fake personas, escape, substance abuse, economic anxieties and other various personal hang-ups, and it’s all swathed in tuneful blankets of frisky rock riffs and warm-hearted melodies.”
