SOAK Announces Sophomore Album, Releases New Single

In 2015, Before We Forgot How To Dream made Bridie Monds-Watson, aka SOAK, into a critical darling, and the youngest-ever nominee for Europe’s prestigious Mercury Prize. The now-22-year-old returns with an unbreakable new song, “Knock Me Off My Feet,” to mark the announcement of SOAK’s sophomore album Grim Town, coming April 26 on Rough Trade Records—it’s one of Paste’s most-anticipated new albums of 2019.

“Knock Me Off My Feet” is a certifiable single, with Monds-Watson raising the stakes on her otherwise soft-spoken vocals and delivering a surprisingly danceable tune. The song is demanding, hopeful and will surely carry fans of her previous work into this new era of discovery for the young artist.

The single is penned as “a love letter” to the social freedoms of her Southern Ireland home, per a press release, and the seclusion and uncertainty that stem from it. It also speaks to the paradigm of how in this wildness, “you can be the best person to yourself, and the worst person to yourself,” says Monds-Watson in a statement

In an album that will explore the spectrum of mental health, and the ideas of love lost, gained and maintained from great distances, it looks like SOAK will not depart from her acclaimed, ethereal form on the way through Grim Town.
