The 1975 covered Ariana Grande’s smash “thank u, next” as part of their Live Lounge performance for BBC Radio 1. BBC shared a clip of the cover performance, but the entire session is available on their site. The band also played tracks from their forthcoming album A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, out this Friday, Nov. 30.
Singer Matty Healy referred to Grande as a “main protagonist,” saying that she’s “the person I see spoken about most. And somebody I’ve started to really care about for some reason. She’s had a right old tough time and I like her a lot. I think she’s cool. And she’s got a great voice. And I don’t. So I’m gonna sing one of her songs.”
Check out the band’s “thank u, next” cover (and a 2013 performance from the Paste archives) below. You can hear the entire performance via the BBC here—the session starts at 2:04:00, with “thank u, next” at 2:23:45.
