The Psychedelic Furs have been in the cultural lexicon for almost longer than some of us actual adults have been alive—their songs have held cinematic stock in classics like Pretty in Pink and The Wedding Singer (as well as a more recent classic, Call Me By Your Name), and been featured in cherished TV shows like Gilmore Girls and Stranger Things. Now the post-punk band will add to their storied legacy by releasing their first new album in almost three decades, Made of Rain, out May 1 via Cooking Vinyl.
The band also share their first single from the forthcoming album, “Don’t Believe,” a sort of ballad that channels the heightened state of apathy and anxiety that comes with living in an endlessly corrupt society: “Money’s got the medicine / You can’t believe in anything / I wanted what I never had / You get it then it’s gone again.”
The Psychedelic Furs will celebrate their new album with a show at New London’s Royal Albert Hall on May 14, with North American tour dates set to be announced in the coming weeks.
