Tamara Lindeman, the singer and chief creative force behind the Weather Station, has never been one to rest on her laurels. Her Fat Possum debut, 2021’s Ignorance, was quickly recognized as one of the year’s most praiseworthy records, securing #3 on our year-end list, and it was followed a year later by How Is It That I Should Look At The Stars, an emotionally humbling musical tour through delicate piano arrangements and Lindeman’s dramatic lyrical reflections. Humanhood, meanwhile, finds the band turning its gaze in a grander, cinematic direction. Evident on previous lead singles “Neon Signs,” “Window,” “Body Moves” and now on “Mirror,” the Weather Station are guiding us on their most evocative sonic journey to date.
Lindeman explained in a press release about “Mirror,” “I wanted the song to warp and disintegrate; to come in and out of being like the imaginary scaffold that holds up a fantasy or cognitive dissonance. In the end, the band grows garbled and comes apart, giving way to a suspension of synth and string textures. I wanted it to feel like being bathed in light; maybe the light I was talking about in the song.”
The Weather Station kick off their UK and European tour this Sunday and will return for a North American run starting March 28. Check out the full list of tour dates and watch the music video for “Mirror” below.
