Introducing Endless Mode: A New Games & Anime Site from Paste

Over the weekend, This Is Lorelei, the solo project of Water From Your Eyes co-founder Nate Amos, came to the Ruins at Knockdown Center for a massive show. Featuring opening sets from the great Dirt Buyer and Best of What’s Next alum Greg Freeman, New York was on fire for a night. Featuring songs from 2024’s Box For Buddy, Box For Star, which we placed at #25 on our list of the best albums of the year, Amos delivered the goods, like “I’m All Fucked Up,” “Two Legs,” and “Where’s Your Love Now,” the latter of which clocked in at #19 on our best songs list last December.

In a feature about This Is Lorelei, music editor Matt Mitchell wrote: “Box For Buddy, Box For Star is such a clever, memorable slice of pop Americana. Whether Amos is reveling in sunny lo-fi (‘An Extra Beat for You and Me’), electropop (‘Perfect Hand’), baroque (‘My Boy Limbo’) or folktronica (‘Box For Buddy, Box For Star’), Amos doesn’t let his own musical scatterbrain linger for too long. He’s writing and recording more intentionally now, but good luck ever predicting what his next record is going to sound like. ‘You should do a record of Frank Sinatra standards,’ I tell him. ‘I would love that,’ he replies. While Box For Buddy, Box For Star isn’t grandiose like a rock opera, Amos ensconces himself in chunks of multi-dimensional, multi-hyphenated genre and character studies that’ll have all of your neurons firing. It’s as much akin to something like Song Cycle as it is to the mixtape era.”

Our good pal Emilio Herce was on the scene at The Ruins capturing all three bands’ sets. Check out his gallery below:
