Thought Gang, the collaborative avant-garde project of David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti, have shared the video for “A Real Indication,” the second single off their forthcoming self-titled LP, due out tomorrow, Nov. 2, through Sacred Bones.
Thought Gang was born out of a collaboration between film and music. The project came together while Lynch and Badalamenti were working on their cult hit Twin Peaks in 1992, and their music often reflects both parts of the pair’s legacies, combining Lynchian paranoia with Badalamenti’s signature jazzy productions.
“A Real Indication” was the song they were working on when they came up with Thought Gang, and it’s a microcosm of what they’re all about. The song is built around a fractured spoken-word piece, which plays over Badalamenti’s seedy back-alley jazz. The accompanying video, shot in 1992 by Lynch on Hi-8 film, stars Badalamenti as the skittish narrator, hobbling through the streets and yelling his rambling monologue into the camera.
Watch the video for “A Real Indication” below and revisit the duo’s previous single “Woodcutters from Fiery Ships” while you’re at it.
