Paste is teaming up with Ultimate Ears to give away a brand new, limited-edition mobile speaker: The UE Boom 2 Lost Time Limited Edition. This exciting new speaker, valued at $200, received a custom design from renowned Australian street artist James Reka, covering its fabric skin with contemporary abstract shapes and bright, eye-popping colors that look vintage and futuristic all at once. It’s a stunning-looking speaker that is sure to impress both music and art-lovers.
Reka’s work has long been inspired by pop culture, cartoons and classic illustration, translated to guerrilla work that has often been seen in the subway systems and train lines of Melbourne. Known for his ability to mix classical and pop art across a variety of mediums and unexpected locations, he’s also traveled extensively, creating art on the streets of Japan, Paris and Brooklyn to official gallery shows around the world. His permanent collection is on display in the National Gallery of Australia. In tackling the Boom 2 Lost Time Limited Edition, the artist was inspired by the creative process itself.
“UE BOOM 2 Lost Time Limited Edition refers to crucial moments of self-reflection, which remind me of being lost in the moment,” Reka said. “Similarly, music can often be an escape, allowing us to transcend time and space, which made this collaboration with Ultimate Ears a natural fit.”
The limited edition speaker is part of UE’s series of limited-run specialty products created with the help of artists, exploring the natural harmonies between music and cutting edge art.
“Reka has continued to redefine what street art is and where it lives,” said Charlotte Johs, general manager of Ultimate Ears. “Ultimate Ears believes there should be no boundaries as to where art can be seen and music can be heard. We’re lucky to work with an artist who complements our philosophy.” For more information, visit www.ultimateears.com
