Several of rap’s brightest stars performed at the BET Experience in Los Angeles over the weekend, but perhaps the biggest highlight was a semi-reunion from the world’s most dangerous group.
Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella of N.W.A.—whose landmark album, Straight Outta Compton, ushered gangsta rap into the mainstream—took the stage together at the Staples Center for the first time in more than 20 years to perform most of their classic hits. Despite Dr. Dre’s absence, the trio tore through “Gangsta, Gangsta,” “Straight Outta Compton” and “Fuck tha Police,” and even got some help from Snoop Dogg for “Chin Check.” Their set also included a memorial to N.W.A. co-founder Eazy E, who died in 1995.
Other performers over the weekend included Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, SchoolBoy Q, Vince Staples and Fetty Wap. Check out N.W.A.’s set above.
