Wet Leg Announce Second Album moisturizer, Share “catch these fists”

Wet Leg—the Isle of Wight band fronted by Rhian Teasdale and Hest Chambers—is back. Their sophomore album, moisturizer, arrives July 11 via Domino, and lead single “catch these fists” is a dance-punk break-out that sounds plain allergic to the pop exploits that have tempted the band’s rock and roll counterparts. The news of the forthcoming release comes after Wet Leg scored three Grammy Awards for their self-titled, high-charting debut album in 2022, one that landed at #4 on our year-end list.

“It can be tempting to think (or fear) that a band that debuts with a funny song like ‘Chaise Longue’ is destined to be a gimmick, but Wet Leg principles Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers dispel any such concern with a display of range and depth on these 12 songs,” Eric R. Danton wrote. “They do angular indie rock with precise, metronomic vocals on ‘Angelica,’ there’s a dance-y beat pushing a bright melody on ‘Ur Mom’ as buzzsaw guitars come and go, and ‘Supermarket’ winds around on shambling guitars and loose-limbed backing vocals, like some slacker-rock anthem from people who aren’t really slackers at all.”

moisturizer marks a new era for the band, one that is fully collaborative rather than built solely off the efforts of co-leads Teasdale and Chambers. “We were just kind of having fun and exploring,” the band explained in a press statement. “We focussed on: Is this going to be fun to play live? It was very natural that we would write the second record together.” Given how good “catch these hands” is, I think they’ve found their answer.
