Minister Supporting Roy Moore Was Convicted of Destroying Evidence in his Son’s Child Molestation Case

Roy Moore spoke yesterday at a Theodore church in Alabama, in which he blamed the allegations of sexual misconduct that have been brought against him by nine different women on false reporting. (He was also interrupted by protestors shouting at the congregation to believe the accusers.)

It turns out, a minister at the Mobile county church who spoke on Moore’s behalf has his own history of dealing with sexual misconduct allegations raised against those close to him. AL.com reports that Rev. Bill Atkinson, Magnolia Springs Baptist Church’s minister of music, destroyed digital evidence of his own son molesting children in Honduras.

The Atkinson family owned an orphanage in Honduras, and Will Atkinson IV, Bill’s son, was arrested for child molestation there. Will was caught out by a surveillance system his brother Joseph set up in the orphanage.

While Will sat in a jail, Bill Atkinson destroyed the digital archives containing the evidence of his son’s crimes. A jury found Bill guilty of a federal charge of obstruction of justice in 2012.

AL.com says they tried to contact Atkinson, and did not receive a response. They also say they have not found proof of any adjudication regarding Bill’s Son’s crimes in Honduras. The orphanage appears to have shut down since then, and the church does not address the crime on their website, either. Looks like birds of a feather flock together.
