Sacha Baron Cohen took down another politician on this week’s Who is America?, this time taking aim at the infamous former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio. You may remember Arpaio as the self-proclaimed “toughest sheriff in America” who was pardoned by Trump after he was convicted of criminal contempt of court. On Sunday’s episode of Who is America?, Arpaio revealed just how thankful he is to Trump.
This time, Cohen masqueraded as a Finnish YouTube star called “OMGWhizzBoyOMG!” who unboxes Shopkins and somehow persuaded Arpaio to appear on the YouTube channel for the unboxing video. The interview topics included Arpaio’s career, his stance on gun control and his relationship with Trump. Arpaio ended up revealing an urge to make his relationship with Trump a more … intimate one.
Arpaio is known for his extreme support for gun rights and aggressive attempts at immigration reform. In July of 2017, Arpaio was convicted of criminal contempt of court after ignoring a judge’s order to immediately stop detaining people based on his personal suspicions that they were “undocumented immigrants.” Trump proceeded to pardon Arpaio less than a month after he was convicted.
However, Arpaio is not only a disgraced former Arizona sheriff: Since Trump pardoned Arpaio in 2017 he has decided to run for the Senate in order to “support the agenda and policies of President Donald Trump to Make America Great Again.” Yet those hopes may be shattered after Cohen somehow managed to make an already-polarizing figure even more controversial.
