Brazilian Striker Hits The Crossbar From Less Than Six Yards
Photo by Alexandre Schneider/Getty Soccer VideoMisses and shots that hit the woodwork are usually pretty unremarkable. But every now and then you find one that makes you go, “wha… how??”
Meet Ricardo Oliveira, a 35 year old striker playing for Santos in Brazil’s top flight domestic league. The former La Liga journeyman currently has 10 goals in 18 league appearances, making him the current leading goalscorer in Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Despite his age and the relative quality of the competition, Oliveira is no chump— he knows how to find the back of the net.
But even the best of us make mistakes. In what was shaping up to be a goalless draw with Atletico Paranaense over the weekend, Oliveira found himself with a golden opportunity in front of goal. Alas, alas…Oliveira went on to miss a penalty right before half time. So, you know, not a good outing for the guy.
Santos and Paranaense did end up playing out a 0-0 draw, leaving Oliveira and his team stuck in 12th place in the league. Womp womp.
