Brek Shea Whips a Free Kick Into the Top Corner

Right before halftime in the USMNT’s friendly against Switzerland on Tuesday, Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley and Brek Shea stood over a free-kick placed just a couple of yards outside the box. Bradley is the captain, Altidore is arguably the USMNT’s most important player, and Shea is a guy most people agree should not be playing left back. So Shea was just there as a decoy, right?

Wrong. Shea is there to whip that ball up and aroudn the wall and into the upper 90.

The game ended 1-1 because a) Jozy Altidore got himself sent off for swearing at the ref and b) FIFA insists that matches last 90 minutes, but Shea’s free-kick, and the US matching up more or less evenly with a talented Swiss side, make this a decent enough result for the USMNT.
