Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is Headed to Broadway

If you’re a U.S.-based Harry Potter obsessive who has already seen Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them six times, then the good news just keeps coming. Not only are you getting four more of those films, you’re also getting a Stateside version of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The play, written by Jack Thorne, is coming to Broadway following a successful run at the Palace Theatre in London. According to Vanity Fair, producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender are currently working with J.K. Rowling to bring the show to the Lyric Theater in New York in the spring of 2018.

The theater, which is currently undergoing renovations, will apparently become “the bespoke home” for Cursed Child. Demand for tickets to the show will likely be at Hamilton-like levels, especially considering the fact that those renovations will reduce the theater’s capacity.

“The remodeled Lyric will include a smaller auditorium redesigned to the specifications of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child team, as well as an adapted proscenium and stage that can house designer Christine Jones’ glorious set without swamping or compromising director John Tiffany’s brilliant staging,” the producers said in a joint statement.

For those of you who haven’t read the Cursed Child rehearsal script that was released over the summer, the play begins where the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows left off. The events of the story take place 19 years after Harry defeated Voldemort, and follow Harry’s youngest son Albus as he befriends Scorpius, Draco Malfoy’s son.

It’s unclear exactly when tickets for this new production may go on sale, but be prepared to fork over a small fortune. After all, Harry Potter will never end as long as there’s money to be made—Cursed Child movie, anyone?
