Watch the Explosive New Trailer for Netflix Sci-fi Series Altered Carbon

Netflix may have its first original sci-fi hit in Altered Carbon, a Blade Runner-meets-The Matrix epic adapted from Richard K. Morgan’s classic cyberpunk-noir novel. The streamer released a new trailer for the 10-episode series Thursday, stoking excitement for its Feb. 2 debut.

Soundtracked by Nine Inch Nails’ “The Beginning Of The End,” the new trailer hardly lacks for visual flair, going a long way towards establishing the cyberpunk world of Altered Carbon. After the story’s central hook—the defeat of death via the digitization of consciousness, making human bodies disposable—is established, we see star Joel Kinnaman (House of Cards) reanimated as elite super-soldier Takeshi Kovacs, then recruited by the wealthy and long-lived Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy, Hap and Leonard) to solve a murder: Bancroft’s own. “If you don’t solve this quickly enough, I’ll erase you,” Bancroft warns, making the stakes quite clear to Kovacs and us viewers alike.

Altered Carbon made Paste’s list of our most-anticipated TV shows debuting in 2018, with Editor-in-Chief Josh Jackson highlighting Morgan’s award-winning novel, cast members Kinnaman and Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton), and Miguel Sapochnik’s (Game of Thrones) direction as reasons to get excited about the show. There’s plenty of potential here for a blockbuster with brains.
