Fuller and Green argued for a higher budget for the show’s forthcoming season two, even with the current budget being about $10 million per episode already. Producer FremantleMedia seemed unwilling to budge. A replacement showrunner has yet to be named.
Still, the two writers have plenty of projects to fall back on. Green has already had a prolific year, credited on the films Logan, Blade Runner 2049 and Murder on the Orient Express, which he will write a sequel for. Green will also be working on Netflix drama Raising Dion. Meanwhile, Fuller, most famous for Hannibal and Pushing Daisies, is attached as a producer to the Apple reboot of Amazing Stories. This exit comes a year after Fuller left another big project, Star Trek: Discovery.
An airdate for American Gods season two has yet to be announced.
