Apple Orders Reese Witherspoon-Produced Thriller Series Are You Sleeping, Starring Octavia Spencer

Apple has announced a series order for a true-crime thriller/drama series based on the Kathleen Barber best-seller Are You Sleeping. The project will be produced by Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon (through her production company Hello Sunshine) and fellow Oscar winner Octavia Spencer. The series will feature Spencer in the lead role, Deadline reports.

The Nichelle Tramble Spellman-written and -created series is the second Witherspoon-produced project sent straight to series after Apple also green-light two 10-episode seasons of an untitled morning show drama starring Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston (also a producer). Serial creator Sarah Koenig will consult on Are You Sleeping, giving the series’ true-crime bonafides a serious boost.

Along with the two Witherspoon projects, Apple is jumping into video streaming with the Steven Spielberg-produced Amazing Stories reboot and a space drama by screenwriter-producer Ronald D. Moore. Apple has been testing the television waters since the August launch of the James Corden-produced Carpool Karaoke.

Along with Witherspoon and Spencer, Are You Sleeping will be produced by big-time investor Peter Chernin’s Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content.
