Zach Galifianakis’ Baskets is Coming Back for a Third Season

Though Zach Galifianakis’ dark clown comedy Baskets is still juggling and spritzing through its second season, FX has announced that there will be a third season of clowning around.

The show, which features Galifianakis playing twin brothers Chip and Dale Baskets, is on the tail end of season two right now, and season three will start up sometime in 2018.

In announcing the renewal, FX Network President of Programming Nick Grad said that the show “has solidified its standing as one of the best comedies on television,” a pronouncement bolstered by the Emmy Louie Anderson took home last year and the show’s rising Metacritic rating, which currently sits at 83 (up 15 points from season one).

Show co-creator Jonathan Krisel said in a 2016 Paste feature that whatever work has to be done for the show feels easy because of the talent he gets to work with. “I think when you work with people who are super exceptional there’s simplicity to it because everybody is on the same page in terms of tone.” How that tone makes it onto the screen in season three remains to be seen.

Baskets returns to FX tonight, March 9, at 10 p.m. EST.
