Carrie Fisher Gets Posthumous Emmy Nomination for Catastrophe

Carrie Fisher’s surprising death last year brought 2016 to a somber close. That’s why it’s so nice to see that today, the actress secured an Emmy nomination for best guest actress for her role in the excellent Amazon series, Catastrophe.

In the show, Fisher plays Mia, the uncouth mother of Rob (Rob Delaney), an American who moves to London to marry a woman he unexpectedly knocked up. Mia was a perfect fit for Fisher’s own irreverent sense of humor and, though her part was relatively small, her character was a major standout on an excellent show.

Fisher joins a long list of actors and actresses who’ve been nominated for Emmys posthumously, but only six have ever won: Ingrid Bergman, Audrey Hepburn, Raul Julia, Diana Hyland, Marion Lorne and Alice Pearce. She’ll be up against performances by Wanda Sykes for Blackish, Becky Ann Baker for Girls, Angela Bassett for Master of None, and Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, each for hosting Saturday Night Live. Overall, this will be Fisher’s third Emmy nomination. All have been in the same category.
