Watch the Trailer for Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend’s Netflix Anime Series Neo Yokio

We already knew that Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig was a talented musician, but now he’s adding TV writer and producer to his resumé. He has officially announced Neo Yokio, a six-episode anime series on Netflix starring Jaden Smith as Kaz Kaan, a young, love-sick “magistocrat” who must fulfill his duty to protect the greatest city in the world, although he would rather concern himself with shopping, field hockey and mending his broken heart.

To create the series, Koenig worked alongside fellow writer and executive producer Nick Weidenfeld, and other Friends Night personnel, collaborating with animation studios Production IG, Studio Deen and MOI. Storyboard artists include Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, Hunter x Hunter, Rurouni Kenshin) and Junji Nishimura (Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura, Pro Golfer Saru).

Smith is just one of many big names on the cast list. The show will also feature the voices of Jude Law, Susan Sarandon, Tavi Gevinson, Jason Schwartzman, and Desus & Mero, among others. The anime is scheduled to premiere on Netflix Sept. 22. Watch the trailer above, and check out Vampire Weekend’s 2007 Daytrotter Session below.
